Mapping Whole Community Design December 31, 1969 Whole Community Design™ Principles Whole Community Design starts, centers, and ends with the inhabitants. Not an urban-centric concept—a “human living” concept. The outcome is a much greater positive impact on people’s lives. Whole Community Design™ is unique and relevant to the people for whom it accommodates and the location in which it occurs. The built environment is an investment in people, and through the creation, revitalization or enhancement of a community, our design seeks to imbue the inhabitants with a sense of identity and inclusion in something larger than themselves. Communities need a center. This may be a physical place, or it may be an abstract sense of identity and belonging, but it must be genuine to the culture. This singularity of identity enriches the lives of the inhabitants, and engenders the community with a memorable experience of not only place, but of people. |
